Assignment: Black and White Florals

I’m enjoying trying out some new skills with Thecandidclassroom on instagram.  This week is black-and-white, with the challenge to start on floral macro work.  I don’t think I’ve ever tried flowers in black and white.  Here is my Round One.  I always appreciate some CC!

Wow, Tam! That is amazing clarity. I love that the fork has some scratches–so cool to see the tiniest details. Nice!ReplyCancel

Wow, I would never think to macro a fork, but I really like it! I love how you can see the little scrapes on it.ReplyCancel

Macro Monday

My instructor for this class said she took 400 shots to get five that she loved.  Being slightly less picky, I did almost as well!  Progress, folks.  This was a really fun, if tough, assignment.   Catching water droplets is harder than it looks!

Tam, these are amazing! I love the little splash puddles! So cool! And the droplets of water. How did you stage this?ReplyCancel

This one is taken in a shallow dish of water with colored paper behind it. A bag of water is hung above and drips into the dish. You have to use a flash to catch the drops, and I might do this again when I have an off-camera flash. I think it will give less glare. But it was fun. Ace rigged me an amazing bag hanging system with a chair, a 2×4 scrap, and LOTS of duct tape! 🙂ReplyCancel

More macro homework.  Wow!  This one was so much harder than it looked!  I hope there are a few more from the 300 shots that work out.  I’ll get them up on Monday.  For now, this is what I saw.
